When the Sun Spins in the Sky

The crowds at Fátima wait for a miracle on Oct. 13, 1917.

Last Sunday was the anniversary of an event known as The Miracle of the Sun that occurred at Fatima, Portugal, a hundred-and-two years ago. Lest you think the event was isolated or insignificant, I would like to mention other cases of similar Solar Miracles that I have explored and written about in the past, including: Medjugorje in Bosnia; Georgia, USA; Misamis Oriental, Philippines.

My personal experience had led me to understand that, once you come to see the Sun is not a ball of fire in the sky, but an intelligent sphere of plasma having its origins in higher dimensions, you are able to establish a rapport with it if you wish. If you are not familiar with the four examples below, take a few minutes to read over the facts and see if you begin to sense there is more to the majestic Solar Orb than you’ve previously acknowledged.

The Miracle of the Sun occurred just after midday on Sunday 13th October 1917, witnessed by a large crowd gathered near Fátima, Portugal. Estimates of the number of people present range from 30,000 to 40,000 (by Avelino de Almeida, writing for the Portuguese newspaper O Século), up to 100,000 (estimated by Dr. Joseph Garrett, professor of natural sciences at the University of Coimbra), both of whom were present on that day, along with several newspaper reporters who took testimony from people who saw the extraordinary solar activity. The event was visible by onlookers up to 18 kilometres away, precluding the theory of a collective hallucination or mass hysteria, and Pope Pius XII himself witnessed the Miracle of the Sun from the Vatican gardens.

Of the very many vivid accounts recorded by the noted Father John De Marchi, here are a couple of examples:
The silver Sun, enveloped in the same gauzy grey light, was seen to whirl and turn in the circle of broken clouds … The light turned a beautiful blue, as if it had come through the stained-glass windows of a cathedral, and spread itself over the people who knelt with outstretched hands.” (By a reporter for the Lisbon newspaper O Dia).
As if like a bolt from the blue, the clouds were wrenched apart, and the Sun at its zenith appeared in all its splendour. It began to revolve vertiginously on its axis, like the most magnificent firewheel that could be imagined, taking on all the colours of the rainbow and sending forth multicoloured flashes of light, producing the most astounding effect. This sublime and incomparable spectacle, which was repeated three distinct times, lasted for about ten minutes.” (By priest Dr Manuel Formigão).

Medjugorje is a town located in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, close to the border of Croatia. On the 24th June 1981 the town experienced something akin to Fatima, with the Sun dancing in the sky and six children claiming to have received a message delivered from the Virgin Mary. The messages attributed to ‘Our Lady of Medjugorje’ have a strong following worldwide – they are still being received up to the present day, and a number of websites have recorded the messages.  The town has become one of the most popular pilgrimage sites for Catholics in the world and each year more than 1 million people visit. It is estimated that 30 million pilgrims have gone there since the 1981 event.

Many attendees have reported visual phenomena including the Sun spinning in the sky, flickering and strobing or changing colour, with figures such as hearts and crosses circling around the solar disc. A lot of witnesses say they are able to look directly at the shining orb without suffering eye damage. Jesuit Father Robert Faricy has written about his own experience of such phenomena, saying, “Yet I have seen rosaries which have changed colour, and I have looked directly at the Sun in Medjugorje and have seen it seem to spin and turn different colours. It would be easier to report that it is just hysteria except that I would then have to accuse myself of being hysterical, which I was not and am not.”

Many people have recorded the strange solar events on camera and their footage can be found on YouTube. Of course, there those who claim that the pictures have been tampered with, but then how do the images happen to concur with what thousands of eye-witnesses are saying they are seeing?

There is another case of similar occurrences in the town of Conyers, Georgia, USA, where according to a New York Times report in 1998, “Worshipers pray and sing, and aim their camcorders at the sky, hoping to record the flickering of the Sun or perhaps the opening of the door to heaven.”  At the centre of it all is a middle-aged mother, Nancy Fowler, and she – like others where such happenings occur – also claims to communicate with the Virgin Mary.

At noon on the thirteenth day of every month, thousands of people who have come from all parts of the world, gather at Conyers to watch the event. They report that the Sun becomes pure white light and that a smaller white disc sometimes circles it.  The solar disc also ‘blinks.’  It is said that on some occasions golden powder or rose petals fall from the sky.

Video of the solar phenomenon has been caught on camera and posted to YouTube – concurring with what witnesses say they actually see. Mrs Fowler says that Mary tells her to warn us about an impending war with China. Maybe that is the third mysterious secret of Fatima that has been hushed up by the Vatican?

The Divine Mercy Shrine, which is located in Divine Mercy Hills, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, Philippines is yet another prominent location where this occurs. At the initial gathering on what has become known as Divine Mercy Sunday, in April 2001, a rainbow first appeared over the head of statue of Jesus and along with an inexplicable phenomenon – more than 10,000 attendees witnessed an astonishing solar event that took place and continues to occur on subsequent Feast Days of the Divine Mercy. It is seen with the naked eye – the Sun’s changing forms and colour. The Sun is said to look like an opaque disk that is ‘spinning like a pinwheel in the sky.’ This miraculously claimed phenomenon is considered by the religious (Christian) Filipino population to be a ‘divine and supernatural manifestation.’

One website which incorporates a video of the event reports that, “The clouds broke, and from behind the mountains, the Sun came out as an opaque disc in the sky. The Sun danced, changed colours, spun like a pinwheel, and made a most sensational demonstration.”

I am uncertain why these events are often linked with the Virgin Mary – is it because of the Catholic predisposition of the host countries, or is something more going on? But it does demonstrate there is an interaction taking place between earthly mortals and the solar disc.
